The Federation was planning to have one sub-regional medical quiz in 2013:
FUMSA medical quiz Challenge is an academic medical quiz programme which will draw team of five medical students from each of the four universities in Uganda. The five medical students will be selected from within their own medical school through a local quiz competition organized by their Medical Students’ Associations, MSAs. The top teams from those competitions will advance to the FUMSA medical quiz challenge National championship which will be held in August 24th – 27th, 2012 in Makerere University, Kampala Uganda. FUMSA medical quiz Challenge is an evidence of FUMSA commitment to the advancement of youth talent through its support for medical education as well as its social and community initiatives. The questions in this fast-paced quiz challenge cover a wide range of topics on non communicable diseases like; cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, mental illnesses and traffic accidents with their predisposing factors e.g. Tobacco usage, Alcohol abuse, Poor eating habits, Physical inactivity among others. The medical challenge will also include: history, science, Ugandan cultures, geography, literature, music and current affairs. The details of the quiz challenge are described succinctly in the FUMSA medical quiz challenge manual. We shall also advertise the Quiz Challenge sessions/events on TVs, Radios and other media houses to attract a high attendance from the community. T-shirts, banners, leaflets, manila cards, etc with health education messages will be processed and used before, during and after the quiz challenge. Lastly the SCOME will hold a reward ceremony for the champions, on which different stake holders and the community at large will be invited
Goal: reducing the burden of NCDs within our reach through preventative public health measures at all levels.
However due to a number of setbacks the federation failed to achieve its aim of hosting other medical students from the East African sub-region for the quiz.
